Union City High School’s girls basketball team lost in the opening round of the recent Class A playoffs after Fletcher used a 24-15 run in the fourth period to secure a 57-50 win.

The loss ended the Tigers season at 11-11.

It was just not our night. We prepped for this for a week and watched film, but we had no flow or chemistry. I was sad for my five seniors, they worked hard,” said Union City head coach Ludy Griggs.

Union City fell behind 14-10 after one period, despite getting three points from Macie Gillock. Brooklyn Walls added two points along with Chelsea Rackley and Kwyn Bollinger.

The two teams battled to a 10-all tie in the second period as the Tigers got nine points from Bollinger, but still trailed 24-20 at the half.

The Tigers began to rally in the third period, getting six points from Gillock and five from Walls to pace a 15-9 scoring edge that gave UCHS a 35-33 lead going into the fourth period.

Fletcher’s fourth-period run came despite UCHS putting six players into the points, four from Braedyn Rackley and three each from Gillock and Bollinger.

Bollinger led all Tigers in scoring with 16 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists. Gillock followed with 12 points and two boards, while Walls closed with nine points, three boards and a steal.

Braedyn Rackley had eight points, three steals and two boards. Chelsea Rackley added four points and five caroms, while Cassie Allread chipped in a free throw and two rebounds.
