Swadley’s Bar-B-Q is on its way to El Reno and the building permit has been submitted for review.
Shelly Dalla Rosa with the city’s Community Development Department said the paperwork was submitted about one week ago and they’ve “started the review” process.
She said the planned location for the restaurant will be 1629 B East Highway 66, “just to the west” of Taco Mayo. Ward Construction Inc. will be the builders.
“We’re still in the preliminary phases of the layout,” said Amanda Ward-Neikirk, vice president of operations for Ward Construction. But, “Yes, it’s coming.”
She said the Swadley’s corporation will be operating the restaurant and Ward Construction will be the proprietor.
“We’re the landlords and they’re the tenants,” she said
Since they are in just the initial stages of construction, Neikirk said they do not have an expected date of completion and grand opening date set yet.
Progress is being made, though, and “as soon as we get the permit approved, we’ll be building,” she said. “It will be excellent barbecue.”
El Reno City Council members recently sweetened the deal for the restaurant chain, when they unanimously approved a sales tax rebate for Swadleys Smoked Meats, Inc. City Manager Tony Rivera said the rebate – the first of its kind, after council recently approved the program – would return 75 percent of “uncommitted sales” tax to the company in the first year, scaling down to 50 percent and then 25 percent the third year.
Swadley’s has locations in Mustang, Bethany, Quail Springs and south Oklahoma City.
